24/7 Help for People in Mental Health Crisis: Dial 988

If an HPSM member is having a mental health crisis and they need support beyond what you can provide, tell them to call the 988 Lifeline

This three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline makes it easy for people to get immediate mental health support anytime from anywhere. Anyone in the United States can call the 988 hotline at no cost.* When someone calls, a counselor seamlessly triages them to their local community crisis call center.

Most calls from the 650 area code are transferred to StarVista Crisis Intervention and Suicide Prevention Center. In addition to a 24/7 crisis hotline, this San Carlos-based resource provides San Mateo County with a mobile youth crisis response team, staff-supervised peer-to-peer teen crisis support (online chat and text), and mental health presentations at schools and in the community.

If you have any questions about the 988 Lifeline or how to help members with mental health issues, email PSInquiries@hpsm.org.

* HealthWorx Members can be charged copays for in-network services. They cannot be charged for any services rendered by out-of-network 988 centers, mobile crisis teams or other providers of behavioral health crisis services. An out-of-network 988 center, mobile crisis team or other provider of behavioral health crisis services is prohibited from billing or collecting an amount from a HealthWorx Member for the services subject to AB 118 except for the in-network cost-sharing amount.
