Virtual dental care lets HPSM members talk with dentists or Oral Health Coaches on-demand anytime from anywhere by live video call. HPSM Dental provides this benefit to Medi-Cal and CareAdvantage members at no cost. 
- Video calls with dentists can help with routine or urgent oral health concerns. When members have tooth pain, dentists can prescribe medicine and refer them to in-person dentists.
- Online Oral Health Coaching can help with general oral health care. Expert Care Advisors can answer members’ questions, give oral care tips and help them make appointments with in-person dentists.
Members can also send photos and text about oral health concerns for dental experts to address.
How virtual dental care helps members
- Dental care at home. This helps those who are nervous about going to the dentist. It also helps those who have difficulty travelling or who are homebound.
- Urgent dental advice at home. A virtual dental expert can advise how urgently member needs in-person dental care and even refer them to dentists.
- Dental care right away. Members don’t need to drive to an emergency room and wait while they’re in pain.
- Dental care in less time. Not needing to visit a dentist’s office helps fit oral care into people’s busy schedules.
