In addition to these new tools, we are launching an online diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) provider training in 2025. We will provide training during onboarding and re-contracting to enhance your cultural competency, awareness, humility, sensitivity and understanding of diversity and health equity. The curriculum covers:

  • Member demographics.
  • Structural and institutional racism.
  • Methods of interacting with members and the healthcare structure.
  • Significant health inequities and identified cultural groups in San Mateo County.
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual and more (LGBTQIA+) concerns.
  • Transgender inclusion.
  • Traditional home remedies.
  • Language and literacy needs.

The Provider Services team will let you know when to take this training. If you have any questions or feedback, please email Provider Services.

Why cultural awareness, cultural humility and cultural competency? At the individual level, cultural awareness will ensure that your patients feel heard, understood, and supported in their healthcare experience. At the community level, culturally informed care can help reduce racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare.
