LGBTQIA+ Mental Health and Safety

People in the LGBTQIA+ community can experience discrimination. This may cause stress and mental health issues like depression, anxiety and shame. These are valid feelings that can be hard to deal with alone. It’s a good time to ask for mental health care when you notice any changes in your mood that affect your:

  • Ability to take care of yourself.
  • Ability to participate in daily activities.
  • Relationships at home, school or work.

Medi-Cal covers care for both mental health and substance use disorders. Some services are covered by Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) and some are covered by HPSM.
